Japanese Leaf Scoop
When I first saw this I thought it was used to scoop fish out of the water. Of course, I didn’t think about them sliding back out through the hole!
Anyway, this is an implement, technically not a basket but beautiful just the same. It is actually used to hold and serve hors d’oeuvres and condiments. Quite ingenious. Anytime that reed is woven into itself the process becomes confusing for me. I did this from a pattern purchased from and designed by Flo Hoppe.
Looking at it, I thought it was quite large but it is only 1 foot long and seven inches at it’s widest point. The lashing is cane as is the top knot which holds all the reed together.

Where would I find the pattern? TIA
Do you have a pattern for this? I’d love to give it a try. I’m getting tired of just regular baskets.

Thanks for your comment. I am a basket weaver, not a writer. Since I know my subject so well I don’t think about what I’m going to write. I just write about what I know. I write what I experienced and might be helpful to others. Don’t clear your mind. You won’t have anything to write about if you do! Hope this helps.

I found your baskets on Pinterest and went to your blog. Loved your baskets too. I really, really appreciate your comment. The only type of basket I haven’t made is a rib ; well I have made a 4″ egg basket twined with yarn and a basic 6″ egg basket (they won’t sit, just roll to the side). So I am still trying to learn. Thought I’d try a Melon Slice next so I don’t have to worry about it sitting! Ha!
